Elaine runs an educational
resources business from home at Coventry. Elaine launched her
business on May 5th 2005.
Tell us about your business or work.
What business field are you in and what is your role?
Littlesheep Learning is an online retailer of educational resources,
aimed at anyone who wants to enhance their child’s learning
– in particular parents of children with special educational
needs and home educators.
What inspired you to work from home?
As a self-employed tutor to children with autism I’ve always
worked from home, including spending a lot of time making and sourcing
appropriate teaching materials – I realised that there was
an opportunity for these to be easily available to parents in one
place. After the birth of my first child I reduced my hours of ‘work’
and looked to develop my ideas further and Littlesheep Learning
was formed.
What is the best thing about working
from home?
Being able to stay with the children whilst setting myself targets
and being creative.
What is the hardest thing about working
from home?
Finding time to do everything and having to be responsible for everything.
Do you have a good support network?
There are some great work at home parents forums on parenting sites
and I’m beginning to investigate some other business forums
but it is often hard to integrate as my business is still in its
infancy and I don’t have the time to devote to it that I would
like.
What is the best piece of business
advice that you have been given?
Take each day at a time and work through lists!
Do you find it easy to separate working
time and personal time at home?
No!
Where do you hope to see yourself
in 2 years time and what is your greatest business wish or ambition?
I hope for Littlesheep Learning to be a leading supplier of resources
to parents and to have other small retailers stocking growing range
of ‘Littlesheep Learning Resources’.
Do you have tips or advice that would
be useful to anyone wanting to work from home or start up their
own business?
Do your planning but ultimately go for it!
